Grant Request

3rd Annual TRANSL/FE: Sonoma County Rural Transgender Community Conference & Professionals’ Symposium

This grant request is to fund the 3rd Annual TRANSLIFE event, which is expanding to meet community demand. The Community Conference will continue its success bringing together transgender people from North Bay counties to increase connections, share infonnation, and expand individual skillsets.

The addition of a Professionals’ Symposium with continuing education credits (CEs) will increase our local capacity to serve this empowered community with responsive care and services.

Alignment with the LGBTQI Giving Circle Purpose: LGBTQI Community Building

As a rural transgender community conference, the TRANSLIFE event squarely aligns with the LGBTQI Giving Circle’s Purpose of LGBTQI Community Building. This third year is a critical tipping point to make TRANSLIFE a sustainable annual event with long-term relevancy for the community.

From the program perspective, the key is building on themes and topics offered in prior Community Conferences, but deepening the content in places from “IOI” to “level two.” To ensure diverse perspectives in the keynote year on year, we’ve secured Fresh! White, an engaging speaker and skilled LGBTQ facilitator from the Bay Area. We’re refining our use of the space to create safety for those exploring their own experience and those trying to educate themselves on transgender issues, as well as training facilitators and including supportive directions in the program. We’re also enriching content in the heart spaces and affinity groups, and will offer the QPR (Question /Persuade/ Refer) Suicide Prevention certification.

The Professionals’ Symposium will address topics like understanding the gender spectrum, working with Trans children, working with spouses and partners, transitional age youth, various health related topics, and legal matters, as well as Q&A and networking. SCBH will provide CEs for NPs, PAs, RNs, LCSWs and MFT.
